Volunteer

Christ Church has various lay ministries which provide opportunities for parishioners to use their time and talents to serve in the life of the church:

Acolytes

On Sunday mornings you may see a Crucifer and two torch bearers who help facilitate worship for congregants by carrying the cross and candles down the aisle and assisting the priest at the communion table. If you are ten years old or older and are interested in serving on this team, please contact Thom Hunter.

Altar Guild

This team takes care that the altar is prepared for the services on Sundays and throughout the week. Altar Guild welcomes volunteers…men or women.  Training at your convenience and scheduling that fits your personal life. Above all, a blessing not only to you but the clergy, the church and God. Please contact Melanie Gerber with any questions.

Altar Flowers

Bouquets are crafted each week by volunteers for display on the altar. If you would like to be involved in this ministry, please contact Gail Ratzlaff.

AV Team

Experience with a sound board is preferred but not necessary, as training will be provided. If you are interested in serving on this team, please contact Michael Nichols.

Children’s Catechesis

We are looking for volunteers to create materials, support the teachers, and train to become catechists. If you have any interest in being a part of this great ministry, you can send Brandi Guel an email, and even find a time to sit in one Sunday and see what it’s like.

Nursery

  • Nursery Coordinator – This is an administrative role and does not require working in the nursery. The nursery coordinator checks Breeze to see if there are enough volunteers for the coming week and if necessary, sends out an email or text to the list of nursery volunteers.

  • Nursery Catechist – This person feels called to catechize our littlest members! Ideally, the nursery catechist will serve every Sunday, but this can also be a rotation of 2-4 consistent volunteers.

  • Nursery Volunteer – We need several volunteers willing to serve during the services to care for our littlest members.

Please contact Brandi or Allison if you are interested in helping with Nursery.

Children’s & Nursery Qualifications:

  • All persons working directly with children must complete a background check and sexual abuse awareness training.

  • Volunteers working consistently during the catechesis hour must either be confirmed, have completed the Adult Catechesis Anglican Catechism class, or be actively involved in the adult class.

College Ministries

  • Anglican Student Ministries – Christ Church sponsors Anglican Student Ministries as an outreach to the campus. Contact Jake Allen or Dr. Paul Gutacker.

  • Undergraduate Bible Study – We invite undergraduates into our homes to study Scripture and share food and fellowship. If you are interested in participating in outreach or hospitality to college students, please contact Andrew Brinkerhoff.

Hospitality Committee

This team helps coordinate meal trains, plan church potlucks, and welcomes parishioners on Sundays. If you are interested in serving on this team, please contact Allison Buras or Elizabeth Corey.

Some hospitality volunteer opportunities include:

  • Bread Breakers – organize participants into groups 2x per year

  • Meal trains – create and share meal trains for families/individuals in need of support

  • Potlucks – help with planning, organization, setup, cleanup

  • Special events (e.g. The Anglican Way at Christ Church) – help with planning, organization, setup, cleanup
