Adult Catechesis
Learning and growing in our faith as a community
Catechesis (from the Greek catecheo, meaning “instruction”) is the Church’s ministry of instructing Christians and those coming to faith for the first time in those truths by which Christians are called to live, as well as how to live by them. Catechesis provides in-depth formation in:
- The Creed (Faith)
- The Lord’s Prayer (Hope)
- The Ten Commandments (Love)
Every Sunday from 9:30-10:30 am, we gather for Catechesis prior to our worship together.
The primary adult course is a study of To Be a Christian: An Anglican Catechism. For those who have already participated in this class, we offer one or more additional classes. At the same time, our youth and children’s catechists lead separate courses, forming our younger members in the Creedal Faith, Prayer, the Liturgy, and the Scriptures. Christ Church Catechesis: Foundations & Formation
Taught by Dr. Paul Gutacker, Dr. Todd Buras, and Fr. Andrew Hollinger
St Augustine Room (upstairs behind the Sanctuary)
Foundations & Formation is the primary course of theological and spiritual formation at Christ Church. We follow the Anglican Catechism, To Be a Christian, to explore the elements of Christian faith and practice, and to lay a foundation for lifelong discipleship.
This course is especially for: those new to Christ Church, Anglicanism, or to the Christian faith; those preparing for Baptism or Confirmation; for College Students, Young Adults, or Brazos Fellows; and for anyone who has not taken the course recently. (Parishioners are encouraged to take this class every 2-3 years.)
Copies of To Be a Christian: An Anglican Catechism will be provided to those who join the class.
All are welcome!
